Web Site Layout

A Tracing Image is an image that can work as the background of your web page. A PNG, JPEG, or a GIF file can work for it. The process is easy. Simply go to Page Properties, select Tracing Image in the Category list, then browse for the image. AP Div Tags can be placed anywhere on the screen and can be used to create tables. Also they cant be effected by other elements on the page. Tables simply hold text and images together. Even tho positioning tables is not easily done like AP Divs, Dreamweaver has great features to make a table presentable.

In Review

1. The client success criteria are: Whats the message?, What elements should be used?, What visual element is most appealing?, Which elements can be removed?
3.
a. Emphasis is adding different elements to a part of page that you think is important.

b. Contrast is making a web site unique and help guide the viewer through the web page. Logos, text, navigation, and web colors should all appear unique.

c. Sense of balance is showing unity in a web page. Try not to make one side of the page heavier than the other add images text to both sides.

d. Arrangement is the how the visual elements are grouped together. Elements should be aligned with one another.

e. Repetition of Elements is repeating elements such as colors, logos, and navigation which maintains the theme of the site.

f. Visual Direction is how the viewer's eyes travel through the web page. The creator wants your eyes the view the most important parts of the web page first.

4. Adding a logo to every page is important because the viewer needs to know if they are on a different web site or the same one.

APPLE

Classic Header, Content, and Footer

The first thing I noticed when viewing this site was the Visual Direction my eyes took. They flowed from the navigation at the top, the mac mini content in the middle then the copyright information at the bottom. It really made viewing the site enjoyable. I also a felt a Sense of Balance because the site was very even on both sides. I highly recommend viewing apple.com

PLAYLIST

Box Shape

Emphasis played an important part in the web site. The first thing my eyes saw was the "Start building a playlist" search engine. The font was much bigger than the other font-sizes with made it stand out also the orange color of the search engine also made for a good Visual Direction. Arrangement was also an important part in this web page. All the visual elements were well aligned with one another making the website well structured.

Hungry Hobo

Classic Header, Content, and Footer

The hungry hobo site was great because it was so simple and yet it still got the message acrossed. For someone looking to eat there or for someone wanting to be employed the viewer knew right where to look. The red navigation at the top of the page caught my attention right away. The most important aspect of the site is that it has the Hungry Hobo logo on every page telling the viewer that they are in the same website and not in another.

CUBS

Full Design

Even tho I am a huge cubs fan, this site doesn't impress me one bit. Even though I love all the visual elements on the page and the Arrangement is well done, it is way too busy. With all the advertisements and the video running in the top right corner, this can tend to make browsers load very slowly.

IGN

http://www.ign.com/
Full Design

With ign.com, I have the same problem with this site as I do with cubs.com. Yet I love the drop-down menu's in the navigation so you can find just what your looking for. Yet all the advertisements, and pop up ad's make this website way too busy for my liking. Also, a good sense of balance is not present. All the visual elements are scattered as if they were just glued on a page in no order.
